Certificate in Computer Aided Design (Minor Award)
About the Course
The aim of this programme is to enable candidates to communicate engineering information in drawing form by
means of a standard Computer Aided Design (CAD) application.
Candidates complete two modules which are based on Level 6 modules currently contained in the Higher Certificate in Mechanical Engineering.
The course will give participants the skills to:
- Describe the design process and the role of drafting in that process.
- Apply conventions for the layout of engineering drawings.
- Produce finished isometric, orthographic sketches and multi-view drawings for the layout of orthographic drawings CAD including toleranced dimensions, enlarged details, auxiliary views and section views.
- Develop simple conic sections and intersections.
- Export CAD drawings in DXF and WMF formats
- Read and interpret engineering drawings
- Generate design layout and simple assembly drawings and bill of material using information from catalogues
- Implement revision control on drawings
- Produce a simple electrical schematic diagram
Assessment is by means of weekly projects and assignments, all conducted during class time.
