Master of Science in Information Technology Management
About the Course
The MSc in Information Technology Management is a taught masters programme (NFQ Level 9) which provides an opportunity for IT professionals to enhance and update their knowledge of the latest technologies and research activities within the important field of information technology management. Management of the information technology infrastructure which underpins modern business and industry presents a complex challenge. Professionals working in the IT sector experience at first hand the tensions between expectations of constant development, increasing efficiency and industry standard security. This masters programme provides a core underpinning in IT governance, management, finance and innovation allied to masters level technical knowledge in networking and/or information systems depending on elective selection. Students taking the programme are allowed to choose eight modules from an offering of twelve modules (scheduled subject to sufficient demand for non-core modules). The elective choice is designed to allow students to select a technical focus for their programme.
The programme comprises two taught semesters of modules followed by a dissertation – a mini-thesis on a research area that the student has investigated and completed a practical piece of work for the purpose of the investigation. The programme can be completed part-time in two calendar years. Students typically attend the Institute two nights per week taking an average of two modules per semester. In the second year students also complete a dissertation.
