Master of Science in Distributed and Mobile Computing
About the Course
1. Programme Overview:The M.Sc in Distributed and Mobile Computing is a taught master’s programme (NFQ Level 9) which provides an opportunity for IT professionals to enhance and update their knowledge of the current issues, state of the art technologies, and research activities within the important fields of distributed and mobile computing. This masters programme takes as its main themes the design and development of large scale distributed and mobile computer systems, the design of a network infrastructure to support them, and how scalable systems can be designed which exploit distributed hardware architectures.
Students taking the programme are allowed to choose eight modules from an offering of ten modules. The elective choice is designed to allow students to select whether they wish a technical focus or a management/business focus to go with their mobile/distributed core. The dissertation element of the programme allows the programme to be further tailored to the interest of the student and is centered on research into the application of latest technologies in the field. This programme has been developed by the Department of Computing following extensive consultation with senior industry representatives and is also based on the research strengths of the department.

Career Opportunities
If you are interested in travelling the world computing qualifications also open the doors for international travel and work – you’ll generally find that qualified computing graduates are welcome to work in most countries. Indeed the shortage of computing graduates means that countries such as Australia, Canada and New Zealand (and Ireland!) specify computing as a field where they are prepared to offer work permits.
